Lighthearted Lookahead: The World

November 2, 2018 Off By Katie Horn

In General

The World marks the end of an era, and moving onto the next.  And quite frankly I am gobsmacked (but not surprised) that this card should appear on the eve of Samhain…. the Pagan Sabbat which celebrates the end of the old life, and preparing to move forwards to the new [read more here about Samhain]. As we winterise our gardens, as we admire the last apple hanging onto the tree, as we pick and savour the last few tomatoes, we show our gratitude and appreciation for all that our Gods have given us this year; and as we put the garden to rest and recuperate through the coming season of short days and short nights, we consider giving ourselves a rest too. Of letting our bodies replenish their energy, ready for the forthcoming burst of life once Spring comes.

In Love

You’ve spent October snuggling up in front of the fire, kindling the romance. Now is the time to truly sit back and appreciate those we love. Celebrate the relationships which we appreciate, and let go of those we don’t.  Now, at New Year, it’s time to celebrate the maturation of that relationship, and move forwards by nurturing it gently.

In Work

We have worked hard this year, and now is the time to sit back and enjoy our success. For what is the point in working so hard if we never take time out to appreciate the moment? We enjoy what we have. We take a moment to enjoy that feeling of being on top of the world, and the gratitude of having what we have. So take it easy for a while at work. Let the unnecessary projects wait a while. Enjoy the work you are doing.

In Play

Well, you might be feeling a little frolicky now, a bit like you wanna just dance for joy. Well why not? Stick Absolute Eighties on the radio and prance around to some Culture Club – perhaps even dance with the vacuum cleaner. In fact, why not take that opportunity to start clearing space to put up some celebratory wreaths? Enjoy the fresh enthusiasm for the coming hype before the beautiful sound of Dah-Dah-Dah-Dah-Dah  Dah-Dah-Dah-Dah-Dah Dah-Dah-Dah-Dah-Dah Dah-Dah-Dah becomes annoying!

In Finances

Well, you’ve been saving all year, presumably, and now those savings are at their peak, because this is the month where you’ll start buying those Christmas goodies to stash till nearer the time, not that you end up having to carry it all in the last few shopping days! So literally, you are at the top of the cycle here… Your account is most certainly going to start dwindling now, so enjoy it while you have it!

In Spirituality

This time of year, as the veil is at it’s thinnest, we commune with our Ancestors. We take time to remember them, to envision them, to appreciate the good things they did for us, to ask and offer forgiveness. We might even take a trip to our own inner sanctuary and meet some of them, have a good chat and ‘lay the ghosts to rest’, so to speak. And then, with a clear conscience, let them go as we move forward into a New Year with a fresh conscience.
